... when I asked these College Republicans why they were not participating in this historical cause, they immediately went into contortions. Asthma. Bad knees from playing catcher in high school. "Medical reasons." "It's not for me." These were some of the excuses College Republicans offered for why they could not fight them "over there." Like the current Republican leaders who skipped out on Vietnam, the GOP's next generation would rather cheerlead from the sidelines for the war in Iraq while other, less privileged young men and women fight and die.

Chickenhawk Generation
This summer Max Blumenthal made a little documentary about the College Republican National Convention. He lets them speak for themselves. See it here

Come on, this is a really stupid argument. You're not on the police force, are you? Well, you're support for law and order is hypocritical. You're not a fireman, either, so I guess you support arson. No medical training, so I guess you don't really care about the sick...
You miss the point. These young neo-cons go on and on about how vital this conflict is for the future of the country. As if any action other than the one they profess is akin to ignoring Hitler, but they are unwilling to make any sacrifices. No tax increase to pay for the conflict. N o increase of vet services. No call for the American public to conserve and reduce their use of petrochemicals. No call to mobilize the nation, and certainly no intent to risk their skin and join up. When asked about this inconsistency they really squirmed and offered pathetic excuses. There is a lot they could do short of enlisting, and they won't even do that much.
