Let the snarking begin

This from Less Jobs, more Wars.

The cost of the Iraq war equals a half of an auto payment, every month, for every American.

War is not fungible. That is, kicking the tar out of AQ in Iraq does not translate easily into jobs or car payments. How much is another ally in the region worth? If you look at a map of the world, how much is it worth to have Iran totally surrounded?

Arabs love winners and hate losers. AQ is just another bunch of loudmouth losers now. They aren't going to be picking up many supporters in the near future. Does that translate into jobs or health care here? Not really, right?

So what is it worth? It's kind of it's own thing, geopolitical power. All that carping about the Euros hating us seems to have been overblown, too. Germany and France are pretty friendly these days.

Yep, the thing was expensive. Yep, it took a long time to get in a groove.

By the way, what's that worth? How much would you pay to have your military have counter-insurgency pretty well dialed in? That's not something you can debate and learn in classrooms, it's something you have to flail around with on the battlefield with real people dying from real bullets and bombs. That's worth something, too, isn't it?
