Killng Americans Overseas in The War on Terror

Over at the Liberator Today is a great post about the consequences of sanctioning the assassination of Americans without due process. Go check it out. Our civil liberties are being eroding bit by bit, and as a country we're too afraid of terrorism to do anything about it.

Those who would give up Essential Liberty
to purchase a little Temporary Safety,
deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Kelly, thanks for the link. I appreciate that we can share some common concerns, even if from different points on the political map.

What's the chance that Bush and Cheney were right all along? What if Obama, having seen the morning security briefings for the past two years, has come to the same conclusion as his predecessor?

B-Daddy, I think we agree on the problems, mostly, we just don't see the same solutions.

I also find it more enlightening to talk with someone who holds a differing point of view, especially when its well thought out, then someone who will agree with almost everything I say. Despite what what KT may think, he has helped me rethink some of my positions.

KT,
I'm definitely willing to consider this possibility. But unless the terrorists turn out to be space aliens here to destroy the world, I strongly disagree with the position that we need to be protected from the truth. If we really needed to torture folks to be secure then bring it out in the open and make a case for it. I suspect instead secrecy is being used to protect people's asses and they can't justify their actions.

The reality no one wants to face with the terrorism issue is that unless we are prepared to commit genocide and kill them all, we have to figure out a way to bring enough of them to our side to keep it in check. Israel is facing that issue now. The current situation is unsustainable. Until they get the Palestinians to police themselves they will never be secure. England eventually figured this out with Ireland. And our current actions aren't doing anything to win hearts and minds.
