This election to a T

It’s like waiting for the results of a biopsy, where the doctors think it will probably turn out okay, but there’s at least some minor chance that you have terminal brain cancer.

That One in Denver today

A hundred thousand strong Obama rally in Denver on October 26, 2008.

A canine supporter of Obama.

One of many Patriotic future voters.

The line to get in was huge. We spent over an hour and a half to
get to the capital plaza, but everybody there had a great time.

The line wound around the new art museum. This is one of the
statues in their collection. It was many times life size.

Anonymous Obama supporter waiting to get in.

A false alarm. We thought all the commotion with the police helicopter
was Obama arriving. Later we found out that he'd arrived by bus.

Denver's finest keeping an eye on things. Police estimates
had the crowd at over a hundred thousand.

President Bush wasn't very popular with the crowd. But at least
no one called for his demise.

The Denver city hall building.

The gold dome of the Colorado State Capital. The crowd worked
its way up the capital steps ...

... and down to the foot of the city hall.

Black clad snipers overlooked the whole event.

Fall colors come to Denver.

Cowboys for Obama

Canines for Obama

T-shirts with slogans were everywhere.

More of the crowd.

An Alaskan who wasn't a fan of Palin.

the back of her sign.

Another canine American for Obama.

As typical in Colorado there were lots of dogs present.

The Hoax

A Republican campaign worker who told police she was assaulted by a man angered by a John McCain sticker on her car admitted she made up the report, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, assistant police chief said Friday.

The whole story is here

So much for them taking the high road.

The Economist's take on the economy

Buckley Voting for Obama

Christopher Buckley, the son of William F. Buckley Jr., has decided to vote for Obama. He explains his decision in a recent article from "The Daily Beast."
But that was—sigh—then. John McCain has changed. He said, famously, apropos the Republican debacle post-1994, “We came to Washington to change it, and Washington changed us.” This campaign has changed John McCain. It has made him inauthentic. A once-first class temperament has become irascible and snarly; his positions change, and lack coherence; he makes unrealistic promises, such as balancing the federal budget “by the end of my first term.” Who, really, believes that? Then there was the self-dramatizing and feckless suspension of his campaign over the financial crisis. His ninth-inning attack ads are mean-spirited and pointless. And finally, not to belabor it, there was the Palin nomination. What on earth can he have been thinking?

Obama has in him—I think, despite his sometimes airy-fairy “We are the people we have been waiting for” silly rhetoric—the potential to be a good, perhaps even great leader. He is, it seems clear enough, what the historical moment seems to be calling for.

You can listen to his interview here.

My Liberal Identity:

You are a Social Justice Crusader, also known as a rights activist. You believe in equality, fairness, and preventing neo-Confederate conservative troglodytes from rolling back fifty years of civil rights gains.

SNL hits it out of the ball park on the bank bailout

UPDATE: Seems that SNL has has pulled the video from their site. One has to ask why this video and not any of the others from the episode. Could it be because it correctly pointed out that the DEMOCRATS are the ones who caused the whole sub-prime lending economic mess.

Shit! It passed!

(Image taken without permission from Mock, Paper, Scissors)

Well it passed. Congratulations, each American is now thousands of dollars deeper in debt! What passed is a version of the bailout bill filled to the top with pork. No one knows if it will work. As one commentator said, this won't fix the crisis, just slow down the collapse. They took action so that they could say the took action, not because they knew whether of not it would do any good. The only serious attempt to address the issue was by Congressman Kucinich, and as usual he was completely ignored. As Tengrain says all we have left is to vote the bastards out of office. Unfortunately Senator Botox is well fastened to the California body politic. It would take a match and some tweezers to get her off.
