Guess the source

Can you guess which the biased left wing main stream media pundit said the following about VP Palin?
Palin is "obviously not qualified to be President," he remarked, describing her interview on CBS Evening News with Katie Couric as a "disaster."

...
"The man who would be the oldest to embark on a first presidential term has chosen as his possible successor a person of negligible experience."

why its conservative columnist George Will.

How about this one ...
Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.

No one hates saying that more than I do. Like so many women, I’ve been pulling for Palin, wishing her the best, hoping she will perform brilliantly. I’ve also noticed that I watch her interviews with the held breath of an anxious parent, my finger poised over the mute button in case it gets too painful. Unfortunately, it often does. My cringe reflex is exhausted.

Palin filibusters. She repeats words, filling space with deadwood. Cut the verbiage and there’s not much content there. Here’s but one example of many from her interview with Hannity: “Well, there is a danger in allowing some obsessive partisanship to get into the issue that we’re talking about today. And that’s something that John McCain, too, his track record, proving that he can work both sides of the aisle, he can surpass the partisanship that must be surpassed to deal with an issue like this.”

...

If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself.

If Palin were a man, we’d all be guffawing, just as we do every time Joe Biden tickles the back of his throat with his toes. But because she’s a woman — and the first ever on a Republican presidential ticket — we are reluctant to say what is painfully true.

and this one is from Kathleen Parker of the National Review.

First Presidential Debate

One thing was made perfectly clear by this first debate - that John McCain is still fighting the Vietnam war. He repeatedly expressed that he didn't want to see the current US soldiers in Iraq to experience the sense of humiliation he felt from the failed war in Vietnam.

Senator McCain Iraq does not equal Vietnam.

Friday silliness

Some silliness to take our mind from the imploding economy.

What is wrong with Alaska?

Watch CBS Videos Online

If this interview doesn't terrify you, I don't know what will. Sarah Palin is a twit! She has no business being a Governor, let along being the second in line for the presidency. She makes 43 look like a soaring intellect. And her assertion that she's just representative of small town America is just plain insulting.

If that is not enough, here's more of the interview.

She is completely ignorant about the most basic political issues and is a vacant, ill-informed, incurious know-nothing.

And it gets worse
... more evidence of just how shockingly incapable she is. That's more than just being inarticulate. It's exhibiting a complete inability to formulate a coherent thought about core issues.

Fall comes to the high country

This last weekend we went up to Mt. Evans one last time before the road closes for the winter on October 1. The road up to the park was decorated with the hint of Fall colors. In another week or so things should be at their peak.

Scientists Now Believe Dogs Know More Than We Think

New research, which was presented at the Canine Science Forum in Hungary recently, suggests that dogs understand the concepts of right and wrong. Scientists from all around the world have been testing the cognitive abilities of dogs in comparison to children and discovering that actually the crafty canines are indeed capable of quite a lot more than most people give them credit for.

Colorado State Forest State Park

The last week of August we took our summer vacation and went camping for a week in the Colorado Rockies. We went to a place we've gone before called the state forest state park. The state forest is located about an hour and a half west of Fort Collins, just over Cameron Pass. The park is famous for its moose population - although we've never seen one there.

This time we decided to rent a camping cabin since we had the puppy and we figured he might not do well with a tent. The cabin is located on North Michigan Lake.

The view from the cabin across the lake is quite nice. We saw a lot of folks fishing and the fish they caught looked great. Notice the brown pine trees in the surrounding mountains. This die off is due to an explosion in the Mountain Pine beetle. Except in the highest forests the die off is over 90%.

Inside the cabin was a pot belly stove, which we didn't use, for warming the cabin, a table and beds. Its was quite comfy for camping.

We got some great sunsets from the front porch. And the weather was quite moderate.

Flying carnivorous spiders, oh my!

This is Charlotte. Charlotte is an Orb Web Weaver (Araneidae) Araneus spider. she created a beautiful classic style web above our back door and has been actively munching on flys. It was a bit startling when we first saw her since she is over an inch in diameter! And those horns on her abdomen are quite dramatic. Orb Web Weaver's are nocturnal. During the day Charlotte hides under the eaves.

The world ends next Wednesday

The world's most powerful particle accelerator, USD Large Hadron Collider, goes online next week.
Doomsday predictors argue that there is a small but serious chance the LHC will breed a cataclysm that could kill the world... Many are fearful that the collider could spawn black holes, which they worry could devour the Earth.

Real McCain of Genius

Thanks to burnlab for pointing out the link!

An insiders guide to the RNC convention

Read what a private security guard witnessed at the RNC convention.

All the hotels in the area are dark. Thousands of Republicans stir in their beds, dreaming thousands of dreams about Sarah Palin. But Charles Hunter, an environmentalist delegate from New Hampshire and a veteran of Republican conventions going back to the 1980 coronation of Ronald Reagan at Detroit's Joe Louis Arena, can't sleep at all.

"This is my last convention," he tells me, lighting a cigarette.

"Why?"

"I'm a real McCain guy. I served. But I liked the old McCain -- when he was a true hero, before he signed on with the yahoos. I actually believe in 'country first.'"

"Not a fan of Palin?"

"If I were McCain I'd probably bring her onto my ticket, too. That's exactly the problem. I guess I tricked myself into thinking that McCain, even after he watered himself down for the election, could somehow restore sanity. The Democrats tried to paint him as a twin of Bush. Not true. But Palin ... she does remind me of Bush. McCain has made a devil's pact and sealed this party's fate."

Even though he's older, he smokes his cigarette like a young man, with earnest haste, before he flicks it off into the dark.

"That's it," he said, "we're through. Even if we win, we've lost."

Don't fuck with people's cars in Ohio!

16-Year-Old Shot Dead for Egging Cars

A 16-year-old boy in Columbus, Ohio has been fatally shot in the early hours of Saturday morning. Garrett Burton had been throwing eggs at cars with at least one other teenaged boy when he was killed.

The incident occurred in the backyard of a house, and police have said they don't have any suspects in the shooting. It is the second time a teen boy has been killed for egging cars in Columbus, with Danny Crawford shot dead in 2006.
